Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Suhail Ahmed has said that the Male' City Council's decision to cancel the Hulhumale' Registry is going to affect the development of Hulhumale'.

Speaking on Raajje TV's "Falasurukhee" program last night, Suhail said that the development of Phase 2 of Hulhumale' is yet to follow and the sudden decision by the Council is going to affect the acquisition of funds for the development projects. He said that it also affects the confidence with the investors.

He said that the City Council is aware.of the negative effects of such a decision and it was by the efforts of many that brought the Hulhumale' development project to its current state but the project is being used as a political tool. Suhail said that every political party has its supporters and they accept the bad decisions by their affiliated parties and that could be why the Council made the decision.

The Managing Director of HDC said that no one believes that the Council decision has any legal standing and if there is a breach of contract between the Council and HDC, it needs to be discussed to find a resolution before taking it to court. Suhail said that instead of following that standard, decisions were made under the table.

He also accused alleged that the Council decision had political motives and it is going to negatively effect the public and not HDC.

A disagreement between the Male' City Council and the HDC has arisen after the City Council approved an opposite party event in Hulhumale' and the HDC responded by saying a permit would be required from the HDC to hold the event.

Male' City Council, which has a opposition PPM majority, has given the coalition the permission to hold the event.

Speaking at the Council press conference after the Registry was cancelled, Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that HDC has been abusing the registry.
