The opportunity to earn a completely tuition free first Bachelor's Degree in Maldives has been launched today.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the announcement while speaking at a ceremony held at Maldives National University (MNU). He reiterated that from today onwards, the opportunity to earn tuition free first degrees has been arranged at two government universities in Maldives.

The two government universities are, Maldives National University (MNU) and Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).

The President said that a large percentage of tuition fees will be paid for, by the government for those that earn a first degree at private universities in Maldives.

President Solih added that the government will also be covering a large amount of course fees at foreign universities established in Maldives as well.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President noted that the amount of Maldivian students earning a higher education is on the rise.

As such, President Solih noted that there are approximately 8,000 students currently at government and private universities in Maldives. He said that there will be an estimated increase in this number of students, anywhere from 9,000 to 10,000 students at universities in Maldives.
