The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country has risen to 244 after another person has passed away due to complications with the illness.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that an 81-year-old local man being treated at the Hulhumale' COVID-19 Treatment Facility passed away at 7:19 a.m. this morning.

The highest number of COVID deaths were reported in the country in May 2021 where 13 deaths were reported on the 25th alone.

The first COVID-related death was reported on 29 April 2020 following the death of an 83-year-old woman.
