Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Shidhatha Shareef, has said that the Ministry’s support will be with any who call for women’s rights to fulfil any role.
The Minister said this while speaking at a partner signing event for obstacle run, “Run with Us 2019” organized by Women In Management (WIM). “Run with Us 2019” is an obstacle race for all ages organized by WIM , on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2019.
Shidhatha noted at the ceremony that the theme for international women’s day this year is “Balance for Better”. As such, she said that a balance cannot be created within society without ensuring gender equality.
The Minister said that the role of various organizations in social issues are becoming more prominent day by day. Shidhatha expressed her gratitude towards WIM for organizing a run even last year, imbued with the slogan for International Women's Day 2018. She noted that the run is being organized this year with efforts to generate awareness regarding this year’s theme for International Women’s Day.
Shidhatha had also granted the endorsement of the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services for “Run with Us 2019”. She cited the reason for the endorsement as the Ministry seeking to create widespread awareness on this year’s slogan.
The Minister said that one of the biggest challenges in front of women’s progress are the barriers in the thoughts and beliefs of people. She stressed that a lot of work needs to be done before this can reach any change.
Women In Management is an international organization that works for the empowerment of women. A Chapter of WIM was established in the Maldives in September 2017. WIM has been deeply involved in the country's effort to develop and empower women. As such, the “Run with Us” event organized by WIM is a women's only run.
