A person who consulted at the Shaviyani Foakaidhoo Flu Clinic has tested positive for COVID-19 and the island has been placed under monitoring.
Manager of the Foakaidhoo Hospital, Ahmed Anwar told ONE Online today that a person who consulted on 23 October tested positive and four random samples were taken for testing and two of those tested positive on 27 October.
He said that a student at the Foakaidhoo School is among the last two that tested positive. And since it was a student active in sports, the number of direct contacts have risen to 56. When the contact tracing ended last night, there are 56 people at 40 houses in quarantine.
Anwar said that they are working to move random sample collection to the evening and there are soft restrictions currently in place on the island. However, if the positive cases continue to go up today, more strict measures will be taken.
While the school has been closed and public gatherings have been banned with the shops asked to do deliveries, general services on the island remain available on the island.
Meanwhile, doctor consultations are taking place online at the island and the weighing of infants and their vaccinations have been suspended. But emergency services are still available.
