Italian lesiure airline, Neos, has started direct flights between Italy and Maldives.
The airline was initially set to begin operations to the Maldives late last year but the plans were cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation in Italy.
General Manager of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Hassan Areef told ONE Online today that Neos started flights yesterday target the coming winter.
He said that Neos would be flying to the Maldives from Milan and Rome three times a week using planes with a passenger capacity of 350 people.
Italy is considered an important tourism marketing to the Maldives. Last year, thr fourth highest number of tourists visited the country from Italy with 46,690 tourists and 136,343 tourists the previous year. However, Italy is not among the top ten markets this year.
