President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that State Bank of India (SBI) always performs a significant role in providing financial assistance to individuals and businesses.

The President said this while speaking at the 45 year anniversary event of State Bank of India held last night at Kurumba Maldives Resort. He conveyed his congratulations to the senior officials, staff and shareholders of SBI for 45 years of service.

President Solih expressed his gratitude for the totality of services granted by SBI to the banking sector and progress in Maldives. The President noted that SBI is the first ever bank opening up its services to the people of Maldives. Additionally, the bank was also the only one in service at the time that tourism began in Maldives.

President Solih noted that the age long relationship between Maldives and India are represented by the long time the bank has been in  service in Maldives.

State Bank of India had presented President Solih with a commemorative plaque at the event.
