A man has been taken in to the custody of the Maldives Police Service for assaulting a woman.

Police said that a report of physical abuse and assault on a 19-year-old woman was reported at 1:30 a.m. last night. And a 19-year-old man was taken in to custody in connection to the crime last night. And an investigation is now underway.

While the Police has released this information, there have been allegations of a woman kept hostage inside a residential house and being abused, circulating on social media. However, the police have said that there have been no reports of a kidnapping or hostages taken.
