Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that 601 people have received the booster shot for the Covid-19 Vaccine.

Speaking at a press conference held by the agency today, Epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal stated that HPA had begun to administer the booster shots since October 4th.

These were only for senior citizens over 60 years of age, people with weak immune systems as well as frontline workers. So far, 601 people have received the booster shot. Only Pfizer vaccine is currently being administered for a third booster shot.

Dr. Afzal noted that the target of HPA is to administer two doses for the entire vaccine-eligible populations of the Maldives. He added that they will decide on administering booster shots for the entire population once the first goal is reached. He also added that the WHO instruction is to first focus on double vaccination of 90% of the population, and to work on a third booster shot afterwards.

ADK Hospital and Hulhumalé Hospital will administer the vaccine between 9:00 till 2:00 while Villimalé Hospital will administer the vaccine from 10:00 till 12:00.
