Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has made a visit to Male' Police Custodial.

The ninth visit to the facility was made to inspect the state of the facility and detainees. The inspection covered checking if any inhuman treatment of the detainees.

HRCM said that the purpose of the visit was to ensure that the protection of international laws and the Maldivian laws are granted to the detainees and discuss the challenges of the employees working at a detention environment.

They also said that they are ensuring that the regulations set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) amid the COVID-19 pandemic are being followed.

A report based on the observations of the visit will be shared with Maldives Police Service, the President's Office, the Parliament and other relevant authorities, according to the HRCM.

HRCM said that a discussion session is set to be held with the Police after the report is sent and hold regular follow-ups
