President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the government will direct efforts to increase women’s role in creating policy.

The President Solih said this during his presidential address to the first sitting of Parliament, 2019 that took place at Dharubaaruge. He added that while women take up more than half of the population, government policies need to be reformed to address challenges faced by women.

As such, President Solih said that it is one of the goals of the current administration to involve more women in authoritative, decision-making roles. The President added that women will be ensured equal opportunity in the development of the islands. He noted that 35 per cent of the current cabinet consists of women.
