The President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid, has arrived in the Maldives.

According to the UN culture, newly elected Presidents of UNGA has make their first official visit to the home countries but upon invitation.

The President of the UNGA arrived in the country this morning and was welcomed by the Minister of Tourism, Abdulla Mausoom and Chief of Staff at the President's Office, Ali Zahir along with officials from the Foreign Ministry.

On this three-day visit, Shahid is set to meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Defence Minister, Mariya Ahmed Didi, Attorney General, Muthasim Adnan and the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Eva Abdulla. He is also set to hold a youth meeting.

Shahid will be making a joint statement after his meeting with President Solih this morning, according to the Foreign Ministry.

President Solih traveled to New York on 21 September 2021 to make his address at the UNGA and met with the 76th President of UNGA, Shahid and invited him for an official visit.
