Two people arrested for attacking the Leader of DRP and the MP for Kaashidhoo constituency, Abdulla Jabiru has been released from custody.
A 42-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were arrested and remanded for seven days on 25 September.
Maldives Police Service said that they were released through procedure after fulfill all investigative queries. However, police did not say when they were released.
MP Jabiru was confronted by a group of young men upon arriving at Alifu Alifu Atoll Mathiveri on 23 September. The MP has since requested for Police protection and spoken up at the Parliament alleging the presence of the extremists at the island.
Talking to ONE Online regarding the incident, the President of the Mathiveri Island Council, Ahmed Aslam has previously said that the people of the island expressed themselves when MP Jabiru arrived at the island and the MP has failed to pay MVR 4.7 million in rent to the Island Council for a land rented to Jabiru without the authorization from the council when former Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed was in charge.
Council President Aslam said that a guesthouse named Casa Mia is being operated at the land of about 2,100 to 2,500 square feet.
When ONE Online asked MP Jabiru, he said that it was a terrorist attack against him and there is no pending payment to the Mathiveri Island Council and the council has been unable to show any agreement. He said that an extremist organisation resides in Mathiveri and he was attacked by them.
