President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that no government body was safe from the contamination of theft, corruption and criminal activity at the time that he took office. He added that there was also no government institution within the State that was exempt from contamination by discord or corruption at that time.

President Solih said this during his presidential address on the occasion of the first sitting of Parliament, 2019 taking place at Dharubaaruge.

The President noted in his address that the laws and regulations to fight corruption had existed at the time when the nation had fallen into this condition.

The President said that government institutions designated to investigate or address corruption had merely implemented basic rules during this time. President Solih stressed that the roots of corruption spread across this country while government institutions were on its knees in front of deception.

President Solih said that efforts are ongoing to weed out corruption that has taken root. He added that all efforts are ongoing, to guide State finances, cases of corruption and theft towards the truth and to return what has been unjustly taken.
