A teacher from Gaafu Alif Atoll Kolamaafushi School has been suspended for the alleged sexual assault of a 17 year old girl.

The case was reported to the Police on August 23rd.

Speaking to "One Online", the Island Council had first denied any such incident. The council noted that all the students who had completed Grade 10 studies in the island had already moved to Male City. However, the Education Ministry had confirmed that such a case has been reported in the island.

As such, the Ministry said that they have received a case of sexual assault, which is currently being investigated. Education Ministry had also suspended the teacher who had allegedly assaulted the student.

"One" has learned that the teacher is Indian, however Police did not confirm whether the teacher has been arrested or not.

Parents who spoke to "One" noted that they had not heard of any such case, and that if such a thing did happen, talks of it would have happened in the island.

After the publishing of this article, the Vice President of the council had confirmed that they have heard of such a case but did not provide any further information.
