The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 83,655 after 79 people have tested positive in the past 24 hours.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 26 people tested positive in the Male' area along with 42 from the atolls and 11 from the resorts.

In the same time frame, 133 people recovered from COVID-19 raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 81,804 with another 1,609 people still in treatment.

There has been 229 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that includes 213 locals, 17 foreign nationals. Maldives reported its first COVID-19 related death on 29 April 2020 following the death of an 83-year-old woman.
