A person has been arrested with a large number of mobile phones being smuggled in to the Kaafu Atoll Maafushi Prison.

The arrest was made this morning in a joint operations by Police Intelligence, the Maafushi Police Station and the Correctional Service.

Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed announced on Twitter this morning that a joint operation by Police Intelligence, Maafushi Police and the Correctional Service intercepted and arrested an individual on the shore of Maafushi who attempted to smuggle a stash of contraband in to the prison compound.

Among the contraband items seized from the arrested individual are 50 smart phones, 42 feature phones, 109 phone chargers, 77 USB cables, 65 headsets, 49 Dhiraagu SIM cards, 12 Ooredoo SIM cards, 2 packs of cutter blades and 10 Miswak (Iraak sticks) along with other items.
