Vaavu Atoll Thinadhoo has been placed under monitoring after random sample tests positive for the Coronavirus.

Thinadhoo Council President, Shifaq Hassan revealed to "One" that random samples of some Indian tourists who visited the island had tested positive before their departure. These random samples were being taken after the council and the task force agreed on doing it, due to an ongoing cold in the island.

Shifaq said that out of the 22 random samples, ten have tested positive so far. He added that results for all the samples have not yet been returned, and noted that they were not contacts of the tourists who had tested positive.

The council President also revealed that the population of the island is now around 500 people, and that contact tracing and testing will continue.
