President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that being able to take part in Sri lanka’s Independence Day celebrations is a great honor.  

The President said this in a tweet posted conveying greetings on the occasion of Sri lanka’s 71st Independence Day. The President expressed his wishes for the success and prosperity of the Sri lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Sri lankan government and its people.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had attended the 71st Independence Day celebrations as the guest of honor this morning. This is also the first time in history that a Maldivian President has attended an Independence day ceremony in neighboring Sri lanka as guest of honor.

The Independence day celebration officially commenced this morning in Colombo with the arrival of Sri lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
