The statistical analysis on a research shows that the most frequent cancer among the population of Maldivians is mouth and stomach cancer.

In a report released by the Health Protection Agency, the treatment is most frequently sought for cancer among both men and women for mouth and stomach cancer.

As such, the most frequent cancers in women in Maldives are mouth, stomach, breast, thyroid and blood cancer. As such, the report also revealed the most frequent types of cancer among men is Maldives. Statistics show that they are reportedly mouth, stomach, prostate and lung cancer.

The report declared that the cancers can be prevented and treated with regular checkups and screening as well as following medical advice.

Cancer is a disease that occurs due to a change within the cells that make up the body. The report stated that this change can take place on various organs within the body.

World Health Organization (WHO) statistics show that cancer is the second most frequent causes of death in the world. As such, WHO reported that approximately 9.6 million people died from cancer last year.

The causes for cancer include smoking and taking in unhealthy food and drinks. Additional causes also include lack of exercise and low intake of healthy nutrition.

World Cancer Day is marked at 4 February 2019 every year. The slogan for this year’s World Cancer Day is “I am, and I will”.
