MP for Addu-Meedhoo constituency, Rozain Adam, has said that the lack of a higher number of women participating in upcoming Parliamentary elections is a failure on the part of MDP women’s wing. She had said this in a tweet sent out yesterday.
The current MP for Addu-Meedhoo constituency had also won in the MDP primary elections and secured a party ticket for the same constituency in the Parliamentary race. Rozaina said that she was “disappointed” regarding the low number of women that had been endorsed by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Rozaina credited this failure to the party’s women’s wing in not generating capable women candidates within the past five years. The MP for Addu-Meedhoo constituency and Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary group of MDP had said that there needs to be major reform within the wing. Rozaina has also called for establishing new goals for the MDP women’s wing.
