President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has arrived to Sri Lanka on an official visit to take part in the country’s 71st Independence Day celebrations as the guest of honor.
The President received a warm welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport by Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe. The President and First Lady Fazna Ahmed received a special honor guard by Sri Lankan Airforce.
This is the first official visit to Sri Lanka by President Solih since taking office. The President is set to meet with Maldivian citizens residing in Sri Lanka. Various senior officials of the Maldivian government are said to accompany the President on this official visit.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is said to meet with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on the visit set to take place starting today until 5 February 2019. The leaders of both nations are set to hold official talks regarding strengthening of ties in various areas between both countries. President Solih will also meet with Sri Lankan Prime Minister as well as several senior officials of the Sri Lankan government on this visit.
This official visit is to include an official welcoming ceremony as well as banquet in the honor of President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.
