President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the government aims to complete the COVID-19 vaccinations.for the students by the end of this month.

The President made the remark speaking at the special assembly today at Rehendhi School to commemorate the first day of the new Academic Year.

In his address, the President highlighted that although the Maldives has managed to gain sufficient ground against COVID-19 to start a new Academic Year, some the situation in some countries are still at critical and under lock down with businesses and transport suspended.

The President said that enough vaccination doses have been received and while many has received the full doses of the vaccine, the hope is that the vaccination program for teachers pick up speed this month.

He also noted that a special vaccination program for children between the ages of 12 and 17 will be starting soon as well and requested the full support from the parents for the program.

USA has provided the Maldives with 128,700 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine which would be primarily used to vaccinate children.
