The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has begun the Inter Unit Football Tournament in memoriam of Commander Ismail Didi with a colorful ceremony.

The MNDF 16th Inter Unit Football Tournament took place last night at Football Association of Maldives’s Turf one with a special ceremony. The chief guest of honor at the ceremony was Minister of Defense Mariya Ahmed Didi.

The tournament is set to be held with two divisions of teams where the first division has five teams and the second divisions has seven teams competing. As such, the first division teams include members of Fire and Rescue Service, Special Forces - Male’ area, Coast Guard as well as a combined team of Presidential Guard and Special Protection Group.

The second division is set to consist of teams from the Band and Music Wing, Military Engineers, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as well as a combined team Defense Intelligence Service with Maldivian MNDF Club and a combined team of Military Police with CIFCO members. In addition to that, the combined team of Signal, Senahiya and Supply Support Service as well as another combined team of College of Defense and Security Studies and the Media and Publishing Service as well as an Integrated Headquarters team are to play second division.

The tournament is set to be held until 24 February 2019. All matches of the tournament are set to be held at the number one Turf field of FAM. Marking the commencement of the tournament, first division teams of Special Forces and Male’ area team played a match last night.

Several MNDF officers of various ranks and positions took part in the ceremony last night.
