Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has said that Maldivian tourism sector has climbing back to its prominence before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on Raajje TV's "Falasurukhee" program last night, Mr. Mausoom said that with having to hold off tourists visa for South Asian travelers visiting the Maldives due to the pandemic, the tourism went down 50 percent in the past two months. He said that the tourism has started to improve again and is currently at the point it was in 2019.

Minister Mausoom said that although it was estimated 1.5 million tourists would be visiting the Maldives this year, the current estimate is 1.3 million tourists.

He said that the Maldivian tourism was proceeded well even during the pandemic which has earned the trust of the other countries.
