An actress of the movie depicting Priyanka Gandhi - “The Accidental Prime Minister” Aahana Kumar said that an election is not a beauty contest. She further said that being beautiful is not necessarily a barrier in politics.

Prior to the Lok Sabha election, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and senior leader of JBP, Sushil Kumar Modi had greatly criticised Priyanka Gandhi. Sushil had said that elections are not a beauty contest and that the people cast their votes based on the effort of candidates.

Actress Aahana had come to Priyanka Gandhi’s defense, raising the question as to why beautiful women cannot engage in politics. Aahana further said that Priyanka is a beautiful woman and also inquired as to what the exactly the issue is regarding that. The actress asked whether India consists only on unattractive men or people. Aahana had raised the question as to whether only older men are allowed to engage in politics in India.

The actress also noted the lack of women in the political arena and said that all women in the field have her support. She also raised the question as to why young women cannot lead in politics.

Priyanka Gandhi is the General Secretary in charge of Congress Party’s eastern Uttar Pradesh. Aahana has credited Priyanka Gandhi of being her inspiration.
