Prosecutor General's Office (PG Office) has made a plea agreement with, Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed, who was arrested in connection with bombing on 6 May 2021 in an assassination attempt of the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Speaking during a press conference held today, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem said that the plea deal with Adhuham was made in the presence of his attorney and that the deal was signed yesterday.
Even though a plea deal was signed, Adhuham has been pressed with four charges; one count of carrying out an act of terrorism, one count of conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism act, one count of attempted murder using a sharp-edged instrument or dangerous weapon, and one count of supporting a terrorist organization.
Adhuham faces at least 23 years in jail, if found guilty for all four charges.
Adhuham was responsible for setting off the blast that was targeted at Speaker Nasheed, which left him seriously injured.
