Prosecutor General's Office (PG Office) has indicted four people in connection to the assassination attempt of the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed with an improvised explosive device (IED) on 6 May 2021.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed via Twitter.
In his tweet, the Commissioner said that he has learned that four suspects are charges are being charged in connection to the bombing and congratulated the officers involved in the case for their "superb" work.
"We continue to work in more suspects. we will defeat violent extremism." Commissioner said in his tweet.
Last week, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem said that they are waiting on forensic reports from the police before pressing charges. At the time, he said that the investigation is still on going.
Maldives Police Service has sent cases against Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed, Mujaz Ahmed, Ali Haisham and Thahumeen Ahmed and Ahmed Fathih to the PG Office for prosecution.
Aside from those five, there are five people in police custody. They are, Fahumee Ali (G.A. Villingilli, Mohamed Nazim (A.A. Maalhos), Mohamed Thasleem (H.A. Hoarafushi) and Abdulla Ali Manik (H.A. Molhadhoo).
