Starting today, Male' City Council has taken over the issuing of garage permits.

The City Council issued an announcement last night saying that the verification of space and the agreement between the vehicle owner and land owner along with the registration of vehicle garages in the Male' City area, as per the Vehicle Registration Act, will be handled by the Male' City Council.

Four-wheel vehicles need to prove a parking garage before they can be registered in the Male' City area. The process was previously under the Transport Authority.

The Transport Authority has recently faced allegations of corruption in verifying vehicle garages. And the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula has told the Parliament that the corruption involves some.of the Ministry's employees. There has been an allegation of 200 vehicles being registered to a single garage.
