President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that honesty as well as directly meeting with the people are integral to succeeding at a Parliamentary election.
The President said this last night during a Parliamentary campaign event of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He said that members should have the capability to fulfill every campaign pledge made during Parliamentary elections. He added that direct meetings with people should include meeting with individuals, and organizations and inquiring and determining what is needed by them. President Solih also said that candidates should be truthful regarding their campaign pledges. He reiterated that should any candidate keep these two things in mind, God-willing, the candidate will be successful.
The President highlighted that Maldives has had to experience a centralized system of governance for quite some time. He said that when considering the initially composed constitution to the very green current constitution, the people have had both bitter and sweet experiences throughout time.
President Solih said that the people of Maldives had surpassed various waves of centralised governance throughout time. He noted that the Parliament is the most integral pillar for establishing national peace and progress. The President added that the institution of Parliament is the backbone of the State. He then advised all MDP candidates with party tickets to be brave and to recognize the important work they have set out to compete.
The President noted that he has spent 25 years of his life in the Maldivian Parliament and said that he has witnessed the hustle and concern and various other aspects under the roof of Parliament. He noted that he had also witnessed various actions of hope under the very roof of Parliament during his service.
