Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that a major COVID-19 vaccination program aiming to vaccinate 90 percent of the population is set to begin on Saturday. The vaccinations under this program will be given on appointment basis at Male' City according to the HPA.

During a press conference held at the Health Operation Emergency Center, Dr. Nazla said that normal life could only be resumed after a large portion of the population is vaccinated, and asked everyone to treat it as a national work. She added that they were working to vaccinate as many people as possible within the next month.

Dr. Nazla said that with the shipment of AstraZeneca doses they have received now and with the upcoming shipments, there would be enough to vaccinate everyone in the Maldives. She added that a program aimed at vaccinating 90% of the eligible population will begin soon.

During the press conference, Nashiya Abdul Gafoor said that a big vaccination campaign will begin in Male' starting July 31 with six centers in the area providing vaccinations.

She also highlighted that the issue of rejected appointments will also be resolved this time around.
