The Australian government has donated 3.5 tonnes of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Maldives.

Taking to Twitter, the Australian High Commission for the Sri Lanka and the Maldives announced that the Australia is easier to gift 3.5 tonnes of PPE to the Maldives as support against COVID-19.

The High Commission said that the Australian government's COVID support to the Maldives now totals at AUD 780,000 (MVR 9 million) including PPE donations, capacity building for frontline workers and support for women and girls.

Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid reiterated on Twitter this morning that he is grateful to the continued support from the Australian in the Maldives' efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The generous assistance of 3.5 tonnes of PPE donated today will enhance our capacity to identify and prevent the spread of the virus." Minister Shahid said in his tweet.

A number of countries have been assisting the Maldives in the efforts against COVID-19 in the island nation.
