Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has met with the Maldivian Foreign Minister and President-Elect of the UNGA, Abdulla Shahid.

Foreign Minister Shahid left to India on Wednesday in his capacity as the UNGA President-Elect.

Taking to Twitter today, the Indian Prime Minister said that he was delighted to meet the President-Elect of the 76th UNGA and wished him success during his "Presidency of Hope.

Modi also reiterated India's commitment to the Maldives as a key pillar of the "Neighborhood First" policy.

At the meeting between the Indian Prime Minister and the Maldivian Foreign Minister today, Minister Shahid expressed gratitude for the Indian aid to the Maldives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Shahid will be officially taking on the duties as the President of the UNGA this September and take on a term of one year following Turkish predecessor.
