The government corporation formed to assist small and medium businesses, SME Development and Finance Corporation (SDFC) has been broken in to and robbed.
Media Official of the Maldives Police Service said that the break-in and theft from the SDFC office was reported this morning at 8:56 a.m.
At this time, it is unclear how much money or documents were stolen from the office as the attempts to reach the Managing Director of SDFC, Zinad Ahmed, via phone has been unsuccessful.
SDFC has been instrumental in keeping small businesses afloat amid the height of the COVID-19 pandemic by giving out MVR 381,086,730 in 2,205 loans under the "COVID-19 Business Loan".
The loans consists of 1,520 business loans and 685 loans issued to individuals.
