Opposition party, PPM has said that the former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is being summoned to the Police headquarters for questioning in an attempt to divert the criticism being aimed at the government.

In a statement issued by the party last night following the summoning of the former President to the Police, PPM said that President Yameen was summoned on 9 and 11 July regarding the same case where the former President had given and signed a statement.

Raising concerns about the summonings, PPM said that it shows the amount of political influence on the police.

PPM said that an investigation into President Yameen has restarted with the aiming of distracting the public at a time where the public mistrust with the current administration has grown and the criticism has increased.

The opposition party also called on the Maldives Police Service to use their constitutional authority in line with the laws and regulations, free from political influence.
