Criminal Court has extended the remand of the person in Police custody for being the suspected person who runs the Twitter account that threatened to bomb the Indian High Commission in the Maldives.

The 42-year-old Mohamed Inaad was initially remanded by seven days following his arrest.

Extending the remand yesterday, the Criminal Court said that some evidence was filed for the extension but there has not been enough evidence that he is the person who sent out the malicious tweet.

The court said that the remand was extended to prevent any attempts to destroy evidences and due the potential of being a threat to society. The party has since decided to revoke his membership.

The person arrested for threatening to bomb the Indian High Commission is a member of the leading political party of the government coalition, MDP.

Inaad was also a candidate for the South Mahchangolhi constituency in the MDP Primaries for the Parliament Election. His Twitter account that made the threats has since been suspended.

Maldives Police Service has received said that threats have been made to bomb the Indian High Commission and protest in front of the Chinese Embassy on social media due to the false reports on foreign relations and diplomatic missions following the tweets of a local media outlet.
