Human remains have been found at the beach of Alifu Alifu Atoll Himandhoo.

President of the Himandhoo Island Council, Hisham Ismail told One Online today that the remains, including three skulls, were found yesterday at the beach of the island that is facing soil erosion.

He said that two of the three skulls were severely damaged.

Council President Husham said that they believe these are the remains of the people that were buried on the island 100's of years ago that have surfaced due to soil erosion.

Highlighting that all three skulls were towards the Kaaba in the Sacred Mosque in Mecca, Husham said that they believe the people buried there were Muslims and pieces of limestone were found in the area as well.

However, the elders in the island are not aware if that area of the island previously had a graveyard or a mosque.

The remaining have now been buried at the Himandhoo cemetery after samples were collected.
