Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has said that the operations at the Alif Dhaalu Atoll Maamigili has not been stopped and no employees have been layed off.

MPL made the statement after some media outlets have reported that the MPL had suspended operations at Maamigili International Port and the employees are being let go.

Yesterday, the Spokesperson of MPL, Dhaanish Nizam said that no decision had been made to suspend the port operations in Maamigili however, a decision has been made to scale down the operations. He said that among the Maamigili Port employees who wish to change employment to under MPL has that opportunity and no employee has been dismissed so far.

Maamigili Port began cargo operations as an international port in May 2018. Currently, there are 35 employees working at the port.
