The captain injured in the speed launch explosion in Vaavu Atoll Fulidhoo has been brought to Male' City for further treatment.

A person who spoke from the island told One Online that the explosion took place this morning around 8:30 a.m. as the vessel was being prepared for an excursion.

The incident took place when the vessel started up after refueling at the island's jetty. It is believed that the explosion on board the 20 feet or so long vessel when fuel leaked from its 115 HP engine.

The person who spoke from the island said that the ignition battery sparked and blew off the vessels roof.

There were five people on board the vessel along with the captain. The captain, who was recovered from under the jetty after the explosion, sustained the most severe injuries, according to the source from the island.

Manager of the Fulidhoo Health Center, Moosa Faaris told One Online that all six people were brought in for treatment following the explosion but all except for the captain was released after treatment.

He said that the captain is in stable condition but the extent of his injuries are unclear and was sent to Male' City today at 11:45 a.m. for further treatment via Sea Ambulance.
