President of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef has resigned from office.

He was appointed as a member of the commission in March 2018, during the Presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Shareef announced his resignation via Twitter with two more years left on his term.

In his tweet, Shareef said that he is satisfied with the honesty he served with in the past three years and the public would continue to see him in the service of the people.

The largest election in the country so far, the Local Government Election was carried out during his term in office.
