President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that he has been assured that the Maldives will receive 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in July.

Speaking during a press conference held today, President Solih said that the goal is to get as many people vaccinated as possible. As such he noted that 70% of the Maldives population have already received their first dose of the vaccine while 39% of the population has been fully vaccinated.

The government has signed an agreement to buy 700,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Giving the latest information on it, the President said that a meeting took place today and that 500,000 doses of the vaccine will be received within the month of July.

The government is also working on purchasing 200,000 doses of the Sputnik V Vaccine. President Solih revealed that works are under way to sign the supply agreement, and assured that the vaccines will arrive in Maldives within four weeks of signing the agreement.

The President further revealed that the doses being donated by America will also arrive this month - however the number of doses or brand of vaccine remains unclear.
