President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the current restrictive measures that are in place to curb the spread of Covid-19 will be extended by another week.

The President made the announcement during a press conference today.

During the press conference, the President noted that even though the number of daily new infections has been decreasing, the situation is still not good enough to return to a new normal. As such, he noted that further measures needed to be taken.

The President noted that measures will be eased after another week of monitoring current restrictive measures.

After a massive spike in Covid numbers, the government announced strict restrictive measures on May 26th. This includes a curfew from 4:00pm till 8:00am in Male' area as well as restricted movement during non-curfew hours.

Last month itself saw 34,565 covid cases with 88 new deaths.
