Following the death of a 10-year-old girl after the ambulance service was delayed, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has said that they condemn any loss of life due to failures in providing medical services.
HRCM made the statement after the family of the girl, who was in quarantine at home, made an accusation that the loss of life was due to an institutional failure in providing medical service. The child passed away last night while undergoing treatment at the emergency room of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The HRCM has advised all medical service providers to be quick in their services especially during the current COVID-19 crisis. They also said that an investigation will be carried out to find out why the ambulance was late.
With the family of the deceased girl stating that she passed away because the ambulance was slow in arriving, the Ministry of Health is making an inquiry as well.
