Covid-19 situation worsens in the Maldives as HPA reports 1,299 new cases today.

The total number of Covid-19 cases is now 59,644 after another 1,299 people test positive for the illness today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 1,299 people have tested positive including 890 people in Male' area and 334 from the atolls. HPA did not clarify numbers in terms of locals and foreigners.

In the same time frame, 462 people recovered from COVID-19 raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 34,621 with another 24,867 people still in treatment.

So far, there have been 147 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that includes 133 locals, 14 foreign nationals.
