President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that the Maldivian government is set to order 200,000 doses of Sputnik V Covid Vaccine made in Russia by Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology.

Speaking at the press conference held at the President's Office, President Solih said that once th vaccination program was launched in the Maldives, a number of efforts were made by the government to acquire more vaccines and now working to acquire the Sputnik V COVID Vaccine developed in Russia.

President Solih said that agreements are in place to buy 200,000 doses from India's Serum Institute and 700,000 doses from AstraZeneca. However, there are difficulties in shipping across the world.

The Maldives is currently using the Pfizer vaccine, Covishield and Sinopharm vaccines in the nation-wide COVID vaccination program.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) that over 300,000 people have received the first dose of the vaccine and 50,000 people have been fully vaccinated with two doses.
