Minister of Defense Mariya Ahmed Didi has said that there is no reason to seek military assistance or aid from any country other than India. She also said that the relationship between Maldives and China are simply developmental.

The Minister said this on the current visit to India, in an interview given to Indian newspaper, Asian News International. Mariya said in the interview that the coastal radar system gifted to the previous administration of Maldives, by Indian military are currently being installed. The Defense Minister also said that the radar system would be beneficial to Maldivians in detecting and stopping illegal activity within surrounding areas.

In addition, Mariya also assured that the India need not be concerned with the relationship between India and Maldives. She also said that the ties between Maldives and China simply facilitates the development and progress of Maldives and that there would possibly be “very limited” military ties between the two nations.
