Covid-19 situation worsens in the Maldives as HPA reports 1,559 new cases today.

The total number of Covid-19 cases is now 55,924 after another 1,559 people test positive for the illness today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 1,559 people have tested positive including 1,135 people in Male' area and 401 from the atolls. HPA did not clarify numbers in terms of locals and foreigners.

In the same time frame, 510 people recovered from COVID-19 raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 32,322 with another 23,464 people still in treatment.

So far, there have been 129 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that includes 116 locals, 13 foreign nationals.
