Covid-19 situation worsens in the Maldives as HPA reports 2,194 new cases today.

The total number of Covid-19 cases is now 50,802 after another 2,194 people test positive for the illness today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 2,194 people have tested positive including 1,698 people in Male' area and 467 from the atolls. HPA did not clarify numbers in terms of locals and foreigners.

As per HPA, out of the 2,194 cases being reported today, 691 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6pm of 19th May and 6pm of 20th May.

In the same time frame, 759 people recovered from COVID-19 raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 30,403 with another 20,276 people still in treatment.

So far, there have been 114 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that includes 101 locals, 13 foreign nationals.
