Covid-19 situation worsens in the Maldives as HPA reports 1,433 new cases today.

The total number of Covid-19 cases is now 45,956 after another 1,433 people test positive for the illness today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 1,433 people have tested positive including 1,294 people in Male' area and 134 from the atolls. HPA did not clarify numbers in terms of locals and foreigners.

As per HPA, out of the 1,433 cases being reported today, 594 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6pm of 16th May and 6pm of 17th May.

In the same time frame, 390 people recovered from COVID-19 raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 28,849 with another 16,997 people still in treatment.

So far, there have been 101 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that includes 90 locals, 11 foreign nationals.
