Covid-19 situation worsens in the Maldives as HPA reports 741 new cases today.

The total number of Covid-19 cases is now 44,523 after another 741 people test positive for the illness today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 741 people have tested positive including 560 people in Male' area and 153 from the atolls. HPA did not clarify numbers in terms of locals and foreigners.

As per HPA, out of the 741 cases being reported today, 515 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6pm of 15th May and 6pm of 16th May.

In the same time frame, 446 people recovered from COVID-19 raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 28,459 with another 15,958 people still in treatment.

So far, there have been 94 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that includes 83 locals, 11 foreign nationals.
